I have a thing for asymmetrical details. If an outfit is too perfect, too matchy-matchy, I have to wear a different earring on one side than the other or wear two different colored shoes or even just fold my sleeves differently. That’s why when these shoes came as asymmetrical I knew we were meant to be. The heels are both mint but the front of one is white and the other is mint.
For me, the asymmetrical detail in the mules keeps this woven tweed vest from being too “ladies who lunch.” I loved this vest so much when I first saw it but on me tweed can go wrong very fast. Any item that is innately proper and sweet looking just becomes too saccharine on me so I have to pair it with unexpected or edgier details. In this case, the slightly distressed jeans, the asymmetrical mules, and the of-the-moment voluminous white shirt help keep this vest looking fresh.
In my last post, I talked about comfort being part of great style. I can move in this outfit and the heels are only a few inches but the vest adds a polished element. I love the color palette too, which again is complementary without being too matchy-matchy. Striking the right balance is key, and that doesn’t mean symmetrical ;).
