This week has been rough. Scratch that, this month has been rough. I don’t know if it’s the cold or lack of sun or the general doldrums that is waiting for spring but I have been struggling. I’m not normally one for wallowing but I have found myself in need of a mindset makeover. More …
Red All Over
In case you can’t tell from these photos, my favorite trend right now is RED! I usually am all for the monochrome and tend toward neutrals but something about this trend is so fun. I haven’t quite made it to the all red ensemble but there are some red pants I’ve got my eye on …
Cold Weather Valentine
It’s COLD here! Too cold for this LA girl. My one consolation? I can wear this faux fur coat and these red ankle boots. With Valentine’s Day coming up I thought it might be fun to put together an alternative V-Day look. When it’s cold the last thing you want to do is put on …
Family Jewels
I’ve never been big into jewelry. I used to only wear my wedding ring and some diamond stud earrings and call it good. Shoes were more my thing and often had enough sparkle for the rest of my outfit. But I started to notice how a bangle of bracelets and baubles really added interest …
Fleur de Leaves
Whenever I need a good silk blouse I can usually find one in my mom’s closet. She has real silk vintage blouses that she has collected and friends have given her over the years. It makes vintage shopping much more convenient and less musty ;). This fleur de lis one is from Ann Taylor and …
Petite Picks
Being petite has its perks. You can curl up in a coach class airplane seat, legroom is never a problem, and you can wear the highest heels in the world and not tower over your man. That said, there are definitely challenges, the most significant being finding clothes that fit. While every body type has …
Spring Staples
Remember these? I told you you’d see this vest and shirt again! I’m a big fan of having a few staples that are the base of your looks for the season and swapping out accessories, shoes, and other little details to get more mileage from a piece. Denim is a great base layer for …
EnTrenched
One of my favorite signs of Spring is that I can swap out my heavy winter coat for a trench coat. I love the details of a good trench coat; double-breasted, shoulder epaulets, gun flap, and storm shield. There’s quite a rich history behind the trench coat as it was originally designed by Thomas Burberry as part of …
Cape Convert
You guys, this cape is EVERYTHING. And it’s only $40 at Target. I love it. I’m usually such a blazer fan but this cape has made me a convert. You get the versatility of a blazer but you can move! I love blazers but sometimes they can restrict movement so I’m loving that this cape gives …
Monochrome State of Mind
I’ve never been interested in rules of fashion. In fact, I was embracing trends long before I knew there was such a thing. I’ve always felt like rules were meant to be bent, nowhere more so than in fashion. Here is one that I actually can get behind though – monochromatic dressing. As someone who needs 2 inch heels to reach 5 feet tall and is constantly asking people to reach the top shelf in the grocery store, I can appreciate anything that makes me look taller. The trick is to add interest by playing with texture. Here I’ve played with knits and leather and added layered wrist-wear for a little extra something. After all, every girl needs a little bling ;).
Hint: Any writing on your jewelry should be worn so those looking at it can read it right-side up.
